life + health update 2

Happy New Years, folks! I hope my words meet you with all the happiness and joyfulness in the world this morning! I hope everyone’s New Year has started off smoothly. I pray your goals and ambitions are meet with a smile on your face in the coming days.

I’m so excited about this post and I hope you guys get just as excited too!

I had my first doctor’s appointment since the end of November and I received some much anticipated test results!

When I last wrote my life + health update, my white blood cell count was a huge concern sitting at only 1.1. My doctor had to do some rearranging on my medication in order for my body to produce the needed cells and basically catch up in general. Today my blood cell count was 7.2, which is a high range of normal.

Literally, Praise the Lord!

After my last appointment my kidney function level was 42%, which is obviously much improved from the 13% I was at before the kidney transplant.

But as of yesterday my kidney function level is 51%! I was blown away, absolutely brought to tears.

My transplant nephrologist wants my kidney function at <60% (60 or greater than. When it gets to 60%, that’s how it will look on my test results). It’s amazing that only 4 months out, I am almost to our goal kidney function. God will really do it, y’all. I have been covered with blessing upon blessings the past few months, I am so forever grateful. Let this be a testimony to the waiting areas of your life. Do you feel like your prayers will never be answered? Do you feel like the years are passing by with no results? I sincerely promise God is just clearing your path. He is just making and molding you to be the person you need to be when He answers that prayer. When you get to the other side, my oh my, you will be so blown away at how everything truly does work out for the good for those who seek His face.

Not only were my white blood count and kidney function in good shape, but ALL my levels were normal. Seriously, for the first time in 6 years, all my levels were good. Some of you know that prior to my kidney transplant, I had to watch my potassium very closely. My kidneys couldn’t properly filter and get rid of the excess potassium in my body so it would often build up to a dangerous level, which could induce cardiac arrest. So basically, no bananas, french fries, or melons for me. I ate them in very small moderation or not all at and my levels were still always so high. Yesterday, my potassium was normal, right exactly where it needed to be. So thankful. This time in my life I will look back on and truly see the metamorphosis that was happening.

As far as my health outside of my kidneys, I’ve really been doing well. I have no desire to drink pop (not that I did much before, but sprite and cherry coke were my weaknesses). I haven’t had any pop since I’ve been home. I don’t even think about it. I drink water and coffee. I rarely eat fast food now. I for the most part cook for myself every meal and take my lunch with me to work. I have a strong desire to absolutely not let my body down. I’m making good habits that will last a lifetime and hopefully help my new kidney last a lifetime.

There are no guarantees in this life, but I do know that I will live + love well no matter what.
